Trentin did indeed put some work in for Cerny. If there was anything in it regarding the Spaniards not wanting Trentin to win, I would assume it was because if it came to a sprint from that group, Trentin would have been the safe bet to win it.

Koronin [Koronin] Sunday 16.Feb 01:28, 2020
That would have required Cerny to outsprint Sanchez and/or Valverde which was never going to happen. That wasn't going to happen, so he had 2nd place on GC wrapped up with nothing to risk. What's sad is if you watch Valverde's interview after the race, his body language was very much of disinterest and only doing the interview because it's part of his job. I very much have the impression that Valverde's "attack" was nothing more than show for the fans that bothered to show up.

Surely Trentin, and the rest of the CCC team would of been riding for Josef Cerny to win the race and GC on the final stage.

Today it was obvious the Spaniards were going to ensure Trentin did not win. The organizers, fans, and Spanish riders had no interest in Trentin winning and they ensure that would not happen. You can also be assured that whatever team Trentin is on will not get an invite to this race ever again.

Koronin [Koronin] Friday 14.Feb 22:11, 2020
The Spaniards have taken exception to Trentin's comments. Juanjo Lobato has basically called the riders (including Trentin) who have criticized the road conditions hypocrites as Belgium roads are in much worse condition than Spanish roads ever thought about being but they won't criticize those roads. I suspect this is going to get much worse. I also suspect that this race is going to start limiting invitations to non Spanish teams as well after apparently the non Spanish riders decided to destroy their race.

update: I read now on Trentin twitter that some sort of protest was going on for the safety of the parcous, specifically for the final descent and the finish line. shame for a minor race, disgraceful at this level

this is usually a weird race for parcours and startlist. this year got ever weirder: no idea what the hell was going on between Astana and Movistar, for sure well played by minor teams

Koronin [Koronin] Friday 14.Feb 20:03, 2020
Oh and yeah, Movistar's rider that was in the break has no chance to win the stage or the overall due to the make up of that break. Also Enric Mas abandoned the race due to illness.

From what several friends who were watching on the side of the road today said, the peloton was riding a lot slower than Valverde's normal training riders over the same roads. The peloton today had exactly zero interest in doing anything for some reason.

Turns out it was yet another installment of Movistar outplaying themselves :)

Koronin [Koronin] Friday 14.Feb 18:46, 2020
Apparently the peloton decided to give the race to the break. Over 16 minutes.
Sergio Garcia managed to get in the break.

Typical me to bet on wrong Bora rider as captain, but Kämna was strong on Mallorca also so no surprise to see that I actually choose him too on my team.

Partykjeppen [Il Piccolo Gregari] Friday 14.Feb 13:24, 2020
With the decline of the Italian scene it's nice to see that there are some new avenues in place for Spanish talent :)

I think the tagline for this race will be "Murcia 2020: Bala with a vengence"

Koronin [Koronin] Friday 14.Feb 01:45, 2020
Just a note, I'm going to be watching the progress of Sergio Garcia (young rider for Kometa) as this is his first season as a pro. He made his debut at Mallorca and this is his second race. He's one of the young kids I've gotten to know some through social media. I'm hoping he continues to improve and gets to move up. These kids I've gotten to know some through social media are the riders of the future I will seek out races to watch.

Nice they got a final start list out. I was going to say that Movistar's rider line up is accurate, along with LL Sanchez and Ruben Fernandez being there. Actually Sanchez and Fernandez have been in Murcia for at least 2 or 3 days anyway and today were out with Valverde and part of his U-23 team and friends doing a training ride.

Assassin [Troy The Trader] Thursday 13.Feb 20:37, 2020
Startlist is now final

Would advise reserves, not exactly sure when the final startlist will turn up.
