Surprising by Trek going for Nizzolo instead of Degenkolb. Cort and Roosen impressive.
I almost cheered for Mc Nulty to make it to the finish, I think he might have underestimated a little the final 200 mt otherwise he really could have won the stage

Close(few seconds!) but no cigar, thumbs up for McNulty - incredible effort.

It was very noticeable. Still a little surprised though, he was not the only one.

Groenewegen is not the leader anymore. He got deducted 20 seconds for drafting behind a car when he lost contact after an echelon.

This comp is all down to positioning. 10pts in the overall is presently the equivalent of 33pts in the season comp., from my current position.

Similar to picking a ttt at WC. Any crosswinds on the cards?

I have Cort, but left out Groenewegen for some reason I can't explain :D

Based on the numbers, Cort Nielsen seemed to be the team leader. And has a bigger name than Minali, probably an option as a lead out as well. The only team for the slightest possible doubt was Trek based on the startlist, with as alternate Nizzolo.

I firstly had Cav at 7, but later moved him up. I was out of for me better options and Cav generally shows good form on the Arabic roads.

johnpnewman [Road Rash] Wednesday 7.Feb 03:00, 2018
Tora, Tora, Tora, you are probably right. Cort Nielson will be tough on Hatta Dam. When I said, who else would you pick, I was thinking of Cort Nielson. I almost pulled the trigger on him, but couldn't because I don't know anyone in his lead out train (except for De Vreese and I am not sure that is a plus). And I also thought there was a decent shot they would be racing for Minali. To be even more controversial, I was actually thinking of dropping Cavendish.

I agree on the fact this is a very boring manager. Colbrelli is mostly interesting, because he can sprint into top 10 in regular bunch sprints, like he has shown in the first stage, and he's capable of winning on that Hatta Dam. And I have Cort Nielsen, but only as 8th rider. It's just picking 9 sprinters in the right order. Last two years this GC was won by Kittel, including the stage finish Hatta Dam two years ago. It says it all about how hard that stage is, not at all.

Other races you've multiple options. Take a mixed team for GC or take 9 specialists for stage victories, e.g. sprinters, puncheurs or climbers. Here 9 sprinters = GC team. Several sprinters who can get into top 5/10 for the normal sprints, can win on Hatta Dam as well, like Colbrelli, Degenkolb, Bouhanni, Kristoff. Consonni, looking at TDU, has to work for Kristoff and I think it's not steep enough for Teuns to make a difference on that Dam, without any involvement in the bunch sprints, having Drücker.

About time for Kuba to realize he is racing in Asia, was sure he would win :P

Jspear [Jspear] Tuesday 6.Feb 16:03, 2018
Crap I had Cort till the last minute until my brother convinced me to take Drucker. Yes I’m blaming someone else! :p

72 managers went for Cort Nielsen. Not certain, but don't think that includes anyone on this thread. Hard to see Cort Nielsen not been involved in every stage, including Hatta Dam, after todays performance.
Back to the drawing board boys. :)

Stage one ended up a LITTLE different than at least I thought it would . ... so I guess some of those who took some chances, are smiling pretty wide right now :D

Mieto :)) This is far from the most interesting game . .. that's pretty clear ... but still you need to be accurate and carefully place your riders ... and there was a few dilemmas also ....
The reason I pointed out your post, was exactly what you did ... give it a reason . ... my 16 year old has recently learned that underpinned statements if FAR more interesting than just a short "I'm bored" cry on the forum :D

Partykjeppen [Il Piccolo Gregari] Tuesday 6.Feb 14:46, 2018
The most fun races are those where the teams are very diverse and there goes a lot for thought into different scenarios, which riders would do well in those and the likelihood of that scenario playing out.

This was a mere three-minute sprinter-hierarchy pick with a slight thought to bonus seconds + loss on Hatta Dam for the main sprint contenders. Not as fun as picking my teams for Valenciana and Besseges though one of those was way more sucessful than the other.

Oman should yield diverse teams :)

Do you find it interesting then, goon? Pretty much all the managers have similar teams except from few brave ones who are hoping that their puncheur-pick would be effective. Sonny is the sprinter number 8th when I look the list of picked riders and he got picked by 130 managers out of 145. IMO I find this pretty boring compared to the races where you can make a difference to other competitors by going for example with a unique strategy between different type of riders rather than picking one puncheur and hoping for the best or alternatively trying to nail those 9 most picked riders to right the order :D

and Kudos to you by picking Teuns, that's one of the only ways to make this interesting. I just feel that the overall this is very boring.

Thank you mr. Newman.... that what my thoughts exactly ... so after some thinking he went from out of my team ( you know, because he is not exactly fast in this company:D ... and the fact that Teuns is one of 3 top guys for Hatta Dam here ) to 80 % for finally enter a 100 % spot on my team :))) ... let's see how stupid that was :D

johnpnewman [Road Rash] Tuesday 6.Feb 06:00, 2018
I would take Drucker. He finished 4th last year. He won't win a stage, but he will score points each time. He will do decent on Hatta Dam stage. Maybe top 5 overall, but at least top 10. Minority'view for sure, but who would you take instead?

Viktor86 [Le Tour de Brabant] Tuesday 6.Feb 04:49, 2018

If someone like Kittel can win the overall GC of this race, that climb (Hatta Dam) can't be hard enough for Nibali.

Koronin [Koronin] Tuesday 6.Feb 03:26, 2018
Because people expect him to win the hilly stage and take the GC?

Jspear [Jspear] Tuesday 6.Feb 02:07, 2018
Why the heck does Nibbes have a star next to his name lol?!

Partykjeppen [Il Piccolo Gregari] Monday 5.Feb 20:01, 2018
About time we get a Dubai Tour where echelons will blow the race apart (quite literally) to spice it up.
