Francisco, yeah the clock does make a big difference. It doesn't take any effort to put on an XFL game (new revamped and restarted league) let alone an NFL or college football game. Same goes for ice hockey or basketball. Cycling just isn't on TV and certainly not on TV around dinner time let alone prime time.

I see your point Koronin regarding the clock... that's a BIG diference to us, europeans...
It's very easy to us to speak when we have two or (even) three races in a row on the same day, like i had in Portugal this week with Saudi Arabia, Langkawi and Valenciana...
Anyway, don't give up cycling... a tree (no mater how big and beautiful is) doesn't make a forest... :)

If races were actually on TV over here instead of having to take the time, energy and effort to find them on line and time shifted it might be different. Live streams are useless as over here we're either sleeping or working. So it needs to be time shifted. Very, very few races on TV and the only race currently that can be watched live is Utah. I'll likely put that one on simply because of that reason. As I said, there is no one that has grabbed me to make looking for races after they are run worthwhile for me to bother with. Don't say the Tour de France which is by far my least favorite race on the entire calendar. The only race I'll look for is Paris-Roubiax, because of what it is. However it hasn't been the same since Cancellara retired. If I'm lucky one of the kids I'm friends with with get a shot with a pro team. I'll pay attention for them if any of them can get a pro contract.

You guys obviously never had religioussexual feelings for a rider and can't relate!
Great, great bunch coming up now though. Evenepoel 2000, Pogacar 1998, Bernal 1997, Van Der Poel 1995...

Yes ofcourse, I was also sad when Andy Schleck retired early, but that didn't take away my passion for cycling. And I think we are upon one of the greatest times of cycling right now. So many big talents coming through. This should make for some amazing cycling years.

I respect our friend Koronin thoughts but i'm totally out of that field... :)
Cycling is the question here!
Riders come and go in a natural order, i must say. We do feel the absence of many great riders but luckly there's always new great men arriving.

Jspear [Jspear] Monday 10.Feb 14:39, 2020
I watch it because the sport is THE BOMB, but I do understand the other side a little. When Alberto Contador retired, I lost a little bit of my interest in watching races from 50K out and all that good stuff. But, as has been said, there are great new athletes coming up through the ranks and they are very fun to watch.

Nathan [CT Glory] Monday 10.Feb 13:30, 2020
Is it just me that watches cycling because the sport is amazing? Or are there more appreciative fans of the sport instead of a single rider.

Suppose we will have to agree to differ. Any sport has to be bigger than any one of its players.

Koronin [Koronin] Monday 10.Feb 01:49, 2020
Aragonite, the problem is most of the new group I just don't care one way or the other about. It's one thing with the NHL where although Mario Lemiuex retired years ago, I still watch the sport. (I grew up watching Mario). Even living in the south now, games are on TV and now with internet radio it makes it much easier to get the radio broadcast of the team's games. Having gone to see a Penguins game (in Raleigh where the Hurricanes play) reminded me of how great Mario was. Although the team has Crosby and Malkin, even together they aren't as good Mario and they are two of the best players in the league right now. Seeing them live it really reminded me of how truly great Mario was and lucky I was to get to see him in person many, many times. So just like with hockey I'll never find a rider I like close to as much as I like Alejandro. The difference being it's much easier to watch hockey. With cycling you have to actively look for races and without a rider I truly want to see there's not a strong enough reason to spend the time and energy to hunt for internet feeds. Hockey the NHL network shows multiple games per week. None of the new riders have grabbed me and basically said I'm worth your time and energy to hunt for race feeds. (I'm not paying for a streaming service to watch.) It's not as simple as just picking one. It doesn't work that way for me.

We all get old Koronin. Not a bad time to treat yourself with a toy boy though. The kid who won this, just one of half a dozen young bucks coming through who, just could make your boys palmares seem mediocre. Go on, pick one. :)

Sigh, today was a very, very bad sign for the rest of the season. I won't be surprised at all after what happened today if next year for Valverde's final year he doesn't race outside of Spain at all. I suspect next year is going to be a farewell Tour for his Spanish fans.

Groenewegan beginning to give off that vibe only the very best do, expecting to win every time they are involved in a sprint.. Also looks more cut thus year, he has lost his chubby cheeks.

Koronin [Koronin] Thursday 6.Feb 19:55, 2020
According to Valverde he completely screwed up the finish of the stage. He said he didn't realize the head wind was as strong as it was, didn't know the finish at all and started his sprint way too soon.
